For our 16th year of marriage, Michele & I, had the wonderful opportunity to spend the weekend at Coronado Island in San Diego (Jan 27-29). Looking back it has been years since the 2 of us have gotten away for longer than a night, by ourselves, without the kids! (Time flies in parenting:).
What did we do? NOTHING!!! Some may say we are missing out on everything around us, that we need to “see the world” of Coronado Island. I’ve had those vacations before and will probably have those again. Those are special moments, but this time I didn’t want to feel like I need a vacation from my vacation (ever said that?)
This time we just wanted to rest. Long naps whenever, window shopping wherever, reading books with coffee and a blanket for hours, watching movies until you fall asleep in the middle of one, walks on the beach at sunset, experiencing new restaurants (by the way there is some wonderful ones there!), and just spending alone time together.
Maybe it’s time for you and your spouse to get away for the weekend. It doesn’t have to be far, just some place alone. Refresh your marriage and enjoy each other’s company.
